A fearful avoidant attachment style is when someone comes on very strong at times, and is distant and detached at other times. The relationship always feels hot and cold.
They can start out as highly charismatic. All attention is on you, and they might engage in love bombing. You feel like the center of their world. But other times you feel like you are the last on their list.
Fearful avoidants have a strong desire for closeness, but they also deeply fear it. When a partner expresses their needs, or confronts an issue, they shut down.
They might tell their partner to “be more positive” or accuse them of being too sensitive or needy. The truth is: they struggle with emotional regulation, and don’t have the skills to understand the needs of others.
When someone who is fearful avoidant notices their partner pulling away, their anxious tendencies are triggered. They can go from being checked out to highly engaged. They’re making promises and showering a partner with love.
This can be very intoxicating and addictive. But, the promises are short lived. Their behavior is based on attachment wounds being activated, not a deep desire to build a healthy, stable, and secure bond.
If you‘re with someone who is only engaged or interested when you pull away, this their attachment wounding coming into play.
You can not love them out of their attachment style.

What you can do is: choose. Observe their behavior. Honor it as the most clear form of communication. Then, make a choice around if this is the type of communication you want in your life.
