Meaning of Khadgamala
The Khadgamala Stotram of Devi is a profound and mystical hymn that is rich with deep esoteric meaning, making it challenging to fully articulate its mysteries. It is both a devotional offering and a tool for spiritual transformation, intricately connected to the Sri Vidya tradition and the worship of the Divine Mother. The recital of the Khadgamala Stotram involves a specific process, requiring devotion, focus, and an understanding of its significance. Each syllable and name within the Stotram carries immense spiritual power, unveiling layers of the Devi’s divine grace and energies.
The word Khadga literally means a sword while the word mala stands for garland. Therefore, Khadgamala means a garland of swords. The Khadgamala Stotram invokes the powerful forms of Adi Parashakti.
How stotram works
The Khadgamala is a mystical garland of divine weapons symbolizing Adi Parashakti’s power. Each weapon represents a Devata and a unique siddhi. For instance, Sage Vishwamitra granted Lord Rama and Lakshmana the powers of Bala and Atibala, making them immune to sleep and hunger. It ensures protection and overall well-being.
The Khadgamala Stotram is a mystical garland of divine weapons, unlocking supernatural effects for the sadhaka. Each recitation reveals new meanings, unfolding its essence in the heart. Reading its meaning beforehand enhances the power and effectiveness of the chant.
▪️ Some Immediate benefits of reading the Khadgamala Stotram
Recitation of the stotram can bestow siddhis such as
Anima, (the ability to shrink)
Mahima (the ability to become giant-like),
Laghima (becoming weightless like a feather) and Garima (becoming extremely heavy).
In the dark age of Kaliyuga, such powers are not manifested physically. Instead, Anima allows a person to remain unnoticed and hidden from society, while Mahima enables them to become highly noticeable or famous. A sadhaka can invoke Anima or Mahima at will, depending on their intent.
The Khadgamala Stotram cultivates devotion and removes the fear of death. It offers immense relief to those troubled by negative energies or spirits. Devi takes personal care of a sadhaka who recites it diligently for 21 days. For immediate transformation, it is recommended to chant the Stotram 11 times daily as part of one’s sadhana.
▪️Beejaksharas of the Khadgamala Stotram
The Khadgamala Stotram is filled with powerful Beeja Aksharas, including Hreem and Kleem. Hreem elevates consciousness and induces euphoria, making life’s challenges seem insignificant. Kleem, linked to Mother Kali and bhagwan Krishna, attracts, mesmerizes, and brings joy and prosperity. The Stotram is a direct representation of the Sri Yantra.
▪️ Role of Sri Yantram in Khadgamala Stotram
The Sri Yantra, known as the King of Yantras, holds a revered place in the Shri Vidya tradition. The Khadgamala Stotram is dedicated to Sri Lalitha Tripura Sundari, the goddess of the three worlds and one of the Dashamahavidyas.
Devi Lalitha sits on a throne, adorned in a red silk sari, ever ready to bless her devotees. She has four arms holding a sugarcane bow, noose, goad, and five flower arrows. Radiant as milk, she graces her devotees with a crescent moon on her head.
▪️ Khadgamala Stotram is part of a Tantric Tex
The Khadgamala Stotram is a tantric text imbued with hidden supernatural powers, requiring mindful and cautious recitation. During the chant, one should meditate on the Sri Yantra, as each syllable invokes one of the 98 Yoginis encircling its central point.
At the heart of the Sri Yantra sit Goddess Sridevi and her consort, Kameshwara, the youthful form of Bhagwan Shiva. The 98 Yoginis, partial expansions of Devi, embody unique aspects of the Divine Mother. With deep meditation, one can feel the presence of the invoked Yogini.
Feeling the presence of Devi
In addition, for better results, one should be initiated into Sri Vidya which is a tantric sect dedicated to worshiping Lalitha Sundari. According to some, Khadgamala is not a Stotram but a potent mantra, a mala mantra. It is ideal to chant the Khadgamala Stotram during Navratri
During these nine days, the presence of Devi is most palpable. If pleased with one’s devotion, she may appear in dreams to bless the sadhaka—a certainty that requires no doubt.
Like a loving mother, Devi protects the sadhaka from accidents, premature death, and financial losses. The unique power of this Stotram lies in its ability to grant benefits even if the mind wanders during recitation.
▪️ How to Chant the Khadgamala Stotram
Before starting the recitation, light a ghee lamp facing east and place it near an image of Goddess Tripurasundari or a Sri Yantra. Offer your obeisance to Devi with devotion and, if desired, present dry fruits as arcana. Invoke the Goddess with a pure heart for the ritual’s success.
Keep a kamandalu (water vessel) nearby for Sankalpa. Take water in your hand, state your wish—ensuring it is pious as advised by the Shastras—and pour the water onto the ground. Begin chanting the Khadgamala Stotram. Daily recitation is ideal, but if not possible, commit to a fixed period of 21 or 41 days for your sadhana.
At the end of the sadhana period, offer clothes to a young girl and seek her blessings. Abstain from non-vegetarian food, onions, and garlic during this time to maintain purity.
