I should add that the mere nature of the request is not the only evaluating factor to deem the act as one of shirk or not. Meaning that just claiming the request is not directly from the person but is instead a request for the person to pray to God for you,

to fulfill that desire does not automatically exclude such an act from being paganistic. Also, note that if it were excluded from that circle of Shirk, it is not automatically valid, because it could still fall under heresy.
For the sake of simplicity, I will divide this into four categories based on the context of the request and the nature of it. By context, I mean the source or circumstance of the request, such as invoking a person, whether dead or living, for the fulfillment of something,
whether within their capacity or not, from anywhere in the world. This is a blasphemous context. By nature, I mean the content of that request, such as one asking a creature, living or deceased, for that which is exclusive to God, like forgiveness of sins, and guidance of hearts.
As I said, this can be divided into four possibilities:
1. Blasphemous context and blasphemous request.
2. Non-blasphemous context and non-blasphemous request.
3. Non-blasphemous context and blasphemous request.
4. Blasphemous context and non-blasphemous request.
-Therefore, if someone were to say, "I only request from so-and-so to pray to God for me," that may have escaped the blasphemous request case (though if it were directed to someone who has passed away, it would be classified as heretical).
However, it has not necessarily escaped the blasphemous context possibility, such as one requesting from a deceased individual to pray to God to forgive them, but requesting from that individual from anywhere in the world which necessitates attributing to that individual
supernatural powers did not possess even when alive. Had it not been for the requesting person believing such an individual is capable of hearing them, being aware of their request and need, regardless of location or situation, they wouldn't have sought their help in first place.
-If they were to seek their help directly to provide them with children, forgiveness, or entry into heaven, then that would be a blasphemous context and a blasphemous request.
-If they were in their presence seeking their help with something within their capability, then that would be a non-blasphemous context and a non-blasphemous request.
-If they were in their presence seeking their help with something outside their capability and exclusive to God (in an absolute sense, or in that specific case with its surrounding factors), then that would be a non-blasphemous context and a blasphemous request.
Wa Allahu a’lam.
