Pertinent to mention that UP govt made its anti-forced conversion law, first enacted in 2021, more stringent this August
Earlier, only victims or their kin could complain
The bill was amended as it was felt that it was not sufficient to prevent individual and mass conversion of minors, physically challenged people, women and Dalits
Earlier, convicts under this law faced a minimum jail term of 1 year and maximum of 5 years, and fine of Rs 15,000
Now, minimum jail is 5 years and can go up to 10 years. Fine is Rs 50,000

Locals said Hindus were lured into this gathering by promises that worshipping Yeshu Masi would miraculously cure illnesses. They were also told that only by joining them would they find marriage alliances in families that have turned to Yeshu, “the most pious soul”. They were also told that they could become regulars only if they brought at least 2-3 new families each
As per locals, at least 500 people, mostly from Valmiki caste, have “turned to Yeshu” over past few years, abandoning Sanatana beliefs and symbols altogether
Many converts make frequent trips to Jalandhar in Punjab, traveling in mini-buses or trains whenever summoned by the pastor

The pastor, identified as Vineet, a local from Uttar Pradesh and from Valmiki caste, ran the operation with his family members
An FIR (462) has been registered at Partapur police station on complaint by activist Sarvesh Upadhyay. Vineet, along with Johny, Payal, Sangeeta, and Geeta, has been booked under Sections 3 and 5(1) of the amended UP Anti-Conversion Law. They are currently in police custody

These activities have been rampant in West UP for some time. I visited an area of Ghaziabad a couple of days ago where such a conversion racket was recently uncovered in an all-Hindu residential colony
Will bring the details shortly
