In 1802, Scindia and Holkar were fighting each other and when Scindia chased him, Holkar fled towards Mewar. On the way, he looted Ratlam (now in MP). He came to Rajasthan
He then moved to Nathdwars where he upbraided Lord Krishna for his defeats while lying prostrate before His image. He then levied three lacs of rupees on the priest and inhabi- tants. On hearing the plundering activities of the Holkar at Nathdward, the Sindhia felt mortified.
Contemporary source clearly mention that money was collected from the holy place and the idol of shree nath ji was not tampered with as it had already been sent to udaipur
