Chinese scientists helped build the US semiconductor empire!
But anti-China bias in the US hides such accomplishments.
Here are 7 biggest contributors:
🔹CMOS: used to manufacture most memory chips, computer processors etc.
Chih-Tang Sah (Sa Zhitang) in 1963
🔹 Programmable read-only memory (PROM)
Developed by Wen Tsing Chow (Zhou Wenjun) in 1956.
Born in Shanxi province, China, in 1918.
🔹 Fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) in 1999.
A type of transistor that became the basis of modern semiconductor chip fabrication.
Chenming Calvin Hu (Hu Zhengming)
“Father of 3D transistors”
🔹 Wang An – Founded Wang Laboratories
Born in Shanghai, got his PhD from Harvard, went on to patent RAM chips.
Created mini-computers, operating systems, online copiers/printers (ahead of Xerox/IBM) etc.
🔹Nvidia - Jensen Huang
Born in Taiwan, so basically Chinese.
🔹 Li Fei-Fei – Developed ImageNet
Born in Beijing in 1976.
Chief AI/Machine Learning scientist at Google
🔹 Jeffrey Chuan Chu (Zhu Chuanju)
He won the first ever IEEE Computer Pioneer Award in 1981.
Was the core member of the team that developed the world’s first general-purpose electronic computer, known as the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC)
