Invocato contro il veleno, i malefici, l’erisipela, le infiammazioni, la febbre, la renella, i calcoli. La sua intercessione è potente in favore degli agonizzanti e per i combattenti.
Dopo aver cominciato i suoi studi a Roma, Benedetto si ritirò a Subiaco, in una grotta, dove un monaco di nome Romano lo nutrì per tre anni, facendo scendere in un paniere il pezzo di pane che ne costituiva l’unico alimento. Parecchi discepoli ne accettarono gli insegnamenti. Costruì dodici monasteri, poi si ritirò a vivere a Monte Cassino che divenne ben presto un vivaio di santi.
I miracoli ottenuti invocando presso DIO la sua intercessione sono innumerevoli. Si attribuisce alla medaglia che porta il suo nome, ovviamente se debitamente benedetta da un prete, sia che la si tenga addosso, sia che si applichi sulle parti malate, sia che si beva l’acqua nella quale sia stata immersa, effetti prodigiosi contro le insidie del demonio, di aiuto nei pericoli e contro le malattie degli animali domestici.
