The Mughals noted this peculiarity, and Aurangzeb specifically ordered a full-fledged assault on Daphlapur to capture Satvajirao dead or alive.
Maharaja Satvajirao's heroic younger brother Dhondajirao fought against Mughals and was captured in his stead. And their home was lost.

After 1692, Satvojirao was bound to Mughals out of love for his brother.
His last action was his large offensive on Luftullah Khan near Rahimatpur.
But sometime before 1695, Maharaja Satvaji Dafle exited Mughal service (perhaps his brother died?) & went all out ravaging Mughals.

If one studies the career of Santaji Ghorpade, they can note many "defeats" (flights, not real defeats) in Mughal reports of his army from 1692 till Battle of Dodderi.
This was due to lack of support from Satvajirao's gunners in bringing conclusive field victories.

It is obvious that Senapati Santajirao Ghorpade was the guiding force for Maharaja Satvajirao Chavhan.
The (sanctioned) death of Santaji Mahaloji Ghorpade Bhonsale in 1697 obviously guided Maharaja Satvaji Dafle Chavhan's motion for peace with Mughal government, not treachery.

On his way to camp of Aurangzeb, around 15 November 1699 he was kidnapped by Bhonsale Chattrapati Marathas and taken to Satara, whereon he was asked to fight for Hindu cause again!
For the next 2 years till 1701, Satvajirao continued the holy war. Meanwhile a tragedy befell him.

In 1700s Siege of Satara, Maharaja Satvajirao Daphale Chavhan's brave son Bajirao (he hadn't been rescued so he was forced to serve Mughals) died due to cowardice of Mughals who didn't charge against the Marathas inside Ajinkyatara, with Bajirao, leaving Bajirao all alone to die.
Another national tragedy at this same exact time, was death of Hindu Civilization's defender Chattrapati Rajaram Maharaja himself, in the North. Satara garrison surrendered automatically.
Still, till August 1701, Satvajirao fought against Mughals, before finally offering peace.

In fact even in March 1701, Maratha Maharaja Satvojirao Chavhan Daphale directly attacked a Mughal convoy heading from Brahmapuri towards Aurangzeb's camp and slew much of its Balochi escort, till Mughal reinforcements arrived from Murtazabad Miraj.
Such was his relentlessness.

Because of Shahu Raja Shivaji Sambhaji Bhonsale's honourable maintenance in Mughal court and death of Chattrapati Rajaram Maharaja, and Aurangzeb's rapidly deteriorating old age, Maharaja Satvaji Chavan and other Maratha Lords were finally feeling compelled to stop their fight.
Satvoji Chavhan's job after this point (1701) was of peaceful diplomatic intermediary, merely arranging negotiations of Maratha Lords with Mughal Government (under Raja Shahu).
However while Satvoji proposed peace, his (other) son Bavaji continued war against Mughals till 1703.

Thus the typical Maratha political gimmick of "meek submissive Father" & "bold firebrand Son" continued with Satvoji-Bavaji Dafale Chavans.

It is a deep tragedy this family effectively went out of power in same time 1706-1707 with Satvoji-Bavaji's death.
