1/8 Ok, so after the actress Nayantara indirectly "abused" me and silently deleted her post on hibiscus tea benefits, her "celebrity nutritionist" Ms. Munmum Ganeriwal, whom I called a "quack" has responded strongly against me...proving that she is indeed a "quack.
A 🧵
2/8 She claims that the hibiscus plant she advised Ms. Nayantara to make tea with was in fact Hibiscus rosasinensis (not Rosa-Sinensis) and not Hibiscus sabdariffa. She has also cited research to back her claims. This is actually worse. I will tell you why.
3/8 Hibiscus rosasinensis is China Rose and it has no human data to showcase any of the claimed benefits. In fact it was traditionally used for hair growth and for the treatment of stomach ulcers and is underresearched.

4/8 Now the journals she cited to back up her claims. This is embarassing, but here we go.
First is IJCRT is International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts - a garbage, predatory, pay and publish, non-indexed, non-peer reviewed toilet paper.
The second is a dubious journal...
5/8 ...published by SKS Islamic University which again is a 3rd-rate, non-indexed, scientific database unlisted toilet paper...
...while the third is a paper from Journal of King Saud University, a computer-based study not featuring humans.
Like I said. Embarrasing.
6/8 Ms. Munmum then goes on a tangent, bringing up complete whataboutery and adding religious sentiments to dog whistle the Ayurveda apologists to come and personally attack me.
Where is the real science?
Like I said, total quack.
Many celebrities follow her advice. Scary.
7/8 Finally, as expected, she goes after the messenger when she knows she cannot do anything about the message. Delusional and clutching at straws, she delivers a word-salad with the panache of an Ayurveda-apologist with a neuronal mass of entanglement for brains can conjure.
8/8 And to formally end this conversation, I can confidently say that if I ask Ms. Munmum to simply name family names of bacteria residing in our guts, I'm sure she will run for cover behind a bunch of hibiscus. Any species shown below. Not necessarily one served to Nayantara.
Hopeless. Just absolutely hopeless. Still not taking any responsibility for misguidance and promoting the pseudoscience peddling nutritionist. Quite sad state of awareness on healthcare here.
