My best friend played in a professional poker league for 10 years and now he is into crypto.
His poker knowledge gave him an unfair advantage...
In just 1 year, he made +$10,000,000.
Here are the 13 most important lessons he taught me 🧵
① Know when to play your hand.
In poker:
Beginners are often very excited.
Experienced players understand the value of patience.
In crypto:
Learn how to control your emotions and wait for the perfect moment to invest a significant sum.
Acting on FOMO only wastes your money.
Investing is real work, not a video game; remember this.
② Hidden motives.
In poker:
You'll hear a lot of advice at the poker table, like "If I were you, buddy, I'd fold."
Do you think they really want to help you? Poker is a competition, and like in any competition, the smartest and strongest win.
In crypto:
Be careful who you take advice from. What's their incentive?
"This coin is going to moon 🚀💸"
And then they offload their bags on you.
③ Small gains can accumulate.
In poker:
Many players are obsessed with "big hands" and wild all-ins, but they forget how small wins can accumulate.
In crypto:
Don't be obsessed with 100x and 1000x tokens, better to take profits after 10x than watch your unrealized profit go to 0.
④ Play by solid principles.
In poker:
On TV or YouTube, you might see pro poker players bluff and win with poor hands. These moments grab attention, but they don't represent good poker players.
In crypto:
Stick to solid projects at first. Stop chasing high APYs. There's no free lunch in this game.
⑤ PVP mindset.
In poker:
Poker is all about players confronting each other.
For you to come out on top, someone else must fall.
In crypto:
The crypto world is similar.
Sometimes, by the time you hear about a protocol, the early players are already dumping, and you're left holding the bags.
⑥ Picking the right table.
In poker:
Would you choose a table with drunk millionaires or seasoned professionals?
Find the games you can dominate.
In crypto:
What's your forte?
I excel with numbers and project analysis, which is why my focus is on finding undervalued tokens.
⑦ Outcome bias.
In poker:
Perfect play can still end in a loss.
That doesn’t mean you should blame and change your strategy.
The journey matters more than the result.
In crypto:
Just because someone hit big with a worthless coin doesn’t mean you should follow.
Skill is more important than luck over time.
⑧ Be a tight-aggressive player.
In poker:
Some players demonstrate extreme patience.
They just have a plan.
They wait for a good hand, and then go hard.
In crypto:
You can invest in fewer projects than most people.
But when you have conviction, you can go beast mode.
⑨ Determining bet size.
In poker:
You need to stake the right sum for each round.
In crypto:
Avoid putting everything into a high-risk, unfamiliar venture.
Bet size translates to how you divide your investments.
⑩ Always zoom out for a bigger picture.
In poker:
Profits can fluctuate daily, but that's completely normal in such sphere.
What you should do is to focus on the long term.
In crypto:
Stop checking your portfolio constantly.
You're only making things worse for yourself.
⑪ Patch up your weaknesses (leaks).
In poker:
A leak is a basic mistake in your strategy.
Over-raising before the flop can leave you vulnerable.
In crypto:
Constantly losing money chasing high APYs? That’s a weakness.
Falling for scams repeatedly? That’s a weakness.
⑫ Master the numbers (math).
In poker:
Understanding math concepts can offer advantages like figuring out pot odds and expected value.
In crypto:
Study concepts like impermanence loss, tokenomics, market caps, and more.
Embrace your love for spreadsheets.
⑬ Managing your bankroll.
In poker:
Even the best players face ups and downs.
Proper bankroll management is key to avoiding going broke.
In crypto:
No matter how promising a project looks, unforeseen events like rug pulls and exploits can occur. You should bet wisely.
Since my account has grown a lot, I can’t share 100x gems in public anymore, so I decided to make my tg channel private.
But you still have a little time to join before I close it for good:
