if the final verdict aligns with their own views, they would use it to support their cause, if the final verdict (through the same methodology of hukm extraction) stands against their views, they would mock the Fatwa.
The non-scientists 'cannot' question the scientific conclusions without being well-versed in the scientific landscape and its technical processes. But the non-mufti can definitely question fiqhi conclusions without understanding how fiqh even works - mainly because the
modernist laymen don't even consider the religious legal system to be logical or technical enough to be deserving of proper study so almost anyone can straight up jump into fiqhi debates, and their opinions should hold equal value as the opinion of the experts of the field.

Lastly it's truly disappointing that prof. taimur had to resort to ad hominem by accusing mufti taqi of dishonesty and questioning his integrity by assuming that he gave this fatwa arbitrarily merely because of his ego. That's like accusing him of tampering with God's law.
