You can't compare Einstein to your mohallay ka (town's) moulvi. | 🧵
Great point by @fakazmi in this debate. Scientists are usually judged through the successes of their best minds while the ulema are judged through the pettiest errors of their lowest class. This, in my opinion
is precisely due to the fact that the laymen (masses) aren't aware of the failures of science/scientists whereas the shortcomings of the ulema are too visible in the society - global media plays a great biased role in this plus the ulema are too involved in the society (mostly
their lowest and weakest trained classes) therefore everyone is aware of their weaknesses. And quite the opposite is the case with scientists, science today has gotten too advanced and technical for the layman to understand its dynamics or notice its errors and damages.
Gai eaton, discusses this point briefly in his book "king of the castle". The non-scientist cannot even fathom the proofs/conclusions of an hypothesis let alone challenge or criticise them. It has reached a realm way beyond the human experience of reality.
Hence the scientists, their blunders, their failures are all critique-proof under the shield of "advanced theoretical quanto-mathematical intricacies". Unless someone actively tries to research the dangerous errors committed by scientists, they will never naturally be able to
observe or stumble upon some easy to understand date which would prove the failures of scientists & their field. On the contrary, the ethical crimes of ulema are just too obvious not to notice. Due to the promotion of scientism, science has individuals like Newton, Einstein and
Galileo as its poster boys, but due to the lack of familiarity with Islamic Tradition (by even muslims) and its thought-leaders, Islam is represented and consequently judged according to the characters and behaviours of ones local moulvis in the imaginings of the masses.
Here's a thread which would help you get a glimpse of the critical errors of science's social role in history (on the same logic through which religion is targeted). Once you explore the problems with the scientific errors you would realise how
the errors & failures of science are like white-collar crimes, whereas those of ulema are street-level. For the masses, the corruption & money laundering of the elite politicians isn't too apparent due to its "professionally technical" nature, such crimes often end up destroying
the livelihoods of entire families, the educational and economic future of entire generations/nations, but because it's a slow & gradual poison, distributed equally on a mass communal level, the exact criminals of such kind are extremely hard to directly identify and blame.
On the other hand, street-level crimes or directly distributed (to individuals) are quite noticeable, even tho they are usually harming particular individuals, having a damage impact although way less than white-collar crimes but way more obvious and easy to point fingers at.
The crimes of scientists belong to the category of white-collar crimes and those of moulvis to the street-level.
Here's another thread regarding the fraud and corruption of scientists - which one would never be able to find unless one actively researches the subject.
Lastly, on the other side, the success of science are too out there and actively promoted, one could point out a thousand things even in their local settings that we are enjoying, due to the efforts of scientists, from phones to satellites to air conditioners to light to cars.
However the efforts of ulema (the thought-leaders) are too passive to really notice, how many lives have been changed in a total 180 degree shift, how many characters have been shaped for the betterment of the society and the hereafter by the works of ulema - but pointing fingers
to highlight the failures of an institution is way easier than pointing fingers to signify the passive and effectively subtle successes it has achieved.
