1/14 What's the fundamental difference in organized Abrahamic faiths vs Hinduism?
Why did Hindus lose 50% land & mind share but didn't die out?
Don't miss this thread that combines history, human psychology and philosophy to answer basic civilizational questions
2/14 Most influencers, handles or narratives present a unidimensional view of history and human interactions i.e. the group they identify with is all good and adversarial groups are all bad.
But in reality history is multi-layered & humans are multidimensional
3/14 Humans if left without a domineering framework will pursue self interest first
For example a lot of Hindus allied with Mughals. Sikhs on occasion have allied with British & Mughals have fought Afghans, Christian armies have fought genocidal wars etc.
4/14 However historically instances of Muslims or Christians corroborating with pagans to defeat a fellow Abrahamic is extremely rare or absent.
Two Muslim armies or two Christian armies didn't fight to favor pagans ever
5/14 Instances of treachery to the faith in pursuit of selfish interest is also significantly higher in Hindu history than in Abrahamic history.
Why?
It all boils down to how much of personal human ego can a race, faith or ideology persuade people to lend to collective ego
6/14 Unlike personal ego, collective identity ego is driven by a broader identity
If a ideology or faith is able to internalize a strong sense of collective identity & persuade humans to forego their personal ego for collective identity it has higher chance of domination
7/14 Hinduism is a framework for a very personal spiritual pursuit.
There is very little in core Hindu ideas to instill a strong collective sense of political or military unity that "others" anyone that does not comply
This is fundamentally different from Abrahamic faiths
8/14 Abrahamic faiths leave little room for lack of loyalty, treachery to group or deviation from dictats
Leveraging this loyalty, they were able to bulldoze native Americans, Persias, Egypt etc with little or no resistance.
They bulldozed half of Hindu land & mind share too.
9/14 So what prevented Hindus from going fully extinct?
It’s counterintuitive - Micro identities of jaati-varna (caste), quasi independent panths like Lingayat/Sikh, ethnic bondages like Jat, Maratha, Rajput
What you call as divisive weakness was a hidden strength
10/14 Even today an Indian army jawan fights to death for loyalty of his battalion first nation later - micro identity drives loyalty
However there is a problem.
This did save half of Hinduism but still was not good enough to save the other half, let alone thrive or dominate
11/14 And here came political Hindutva which mimics the Abrahamic faiths in order to resist their expansion into Hindu mind share & land share
Hindutva uses dress codes, rituals, slogans, songs etc to provide a united spectrum of Hindu identity across micro identities
12/14 Hindutva and asks the adherent to sacrifice at least a part or ideally whole of personal ego in pursuit of collective global loyalty.
Exactly like Abrahamic faiths
Only a diamond can cut a diamond
13/14 Do not be confused on the purpose of political Hindutva
Its purpose is collective global unity for survival as a group
It is NOT for your personal spiritual journey like Hinduism
Unless a critical mass of Hindus understand this we are doomed to extinction
