An unmissable visual story thread of Maharana Pratap's fight against Mughal tyrant Akbar as a tribute on his birthday May 9th
Bollywood has produced many Mughal- e- azams but never anything on Rana but we promise you that by this year end we'll have a short movie on him
Read on
The story starts in the year 1540, a baby was born to King Udai Singh II and Queen Jaiwanta Bai in Mewar.
This baby was named Pratap Singh.
He would go on to be India's greatest heroes and would embody courage and conviction against all odds
When Udai Singh passed away in 1572, there was a lot of chaos.
Rani Dheer Bai Bhatiyani wanted her son Jagmal to be the next king, but courtiers said Pratap, being the eldest, should be the king.
Thus Pratap Singh became the 54th ruler of Mewar - Maha Rana Pratap
Jagmal didn't like this at all. He was angry and decided to go to Akbar, the tyrant Mughal emperor, for help.
Akbar had eyes on Rajputana ever since his bloody siege of Chittorgarh and saw this as a good chance to consolidate his gains and expand his Mughal empire
Akbar wanted to control a path to Gujarat through Mewar & he did his best to negotiate with Rana Pratap and make him a vassal but the proud Rana refused.
War became inevitable and culminated in the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Mughals were lead by fellow Rajput Man Singh.
Rajputs fought with crazed valor but Mughals prevailed in a stalemate
Rana escaped with his life on his favorite steed Chetak to fight another day
Rana Pratap moved to the Aravali mountains where he famously swore that he will eat rotis of grass but never bow before Akbar
The Bhil tribals supported him in this fight
Slowly and surely Rana Pratap started taking back lost territories and the final nail in Mughal coffin came with the Battle of Dewair in 1582
Mughals were completely demolished in this battle and from then on it was game on for Rana Pratap
He would have fully liberated Mewar and Chittor but unfortunately Rana got injured in a hunting accident in Chavand and passed away.
Before he died, he told his son Amar Singh I to never give up and to take back Chittor.
To keep his father's last wish Amar Singh kept fighting and inflicted loss upon loss on Mughals.
Finally, in 1616, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Amar Singh met for negotiations and in the peace treaty Chittor was given back to Rajputs.
