He joined the freedom movement at the age of 16 after listening to the speech of Bipin Chandra Pal. He became a revolutionary and started fighting for the freedom along with VOC, Vanchinathan & Bharathiyar. He was incorrectly convicted in the Ashe murder case & was imprisoned at the age of 21.
After spending more than seven years in prison, he was freed but again continued to fight for independence. This time he was moved to various prisons in Multan, Peshawar & Rangoon and spent eight years of confinement.
He continued his activists after coming out of prison and later took Sanyas with the name of Swami Omkar.
Today is the remembrance day of the fiery freedom fighter Neelakanta Brahmachari.

When his brother wrote a letter to the then CM Kamaraj asking for the freedom fighter recognition to him, Brahmachari wrote a strong letter to his brother “I consider the recommendation as a humiliation to me as what I have done is only a service to the nation. If you write to anyone on this again, I will stop corresponding with you”. Such was the commitment of this great man !
