🌺।।Spiritual Significance of Visiting a 'Place of Pilgrimage'।।🌺
In Hindu philosophy; The process or journey associated with 'Place of Pilgrimage / sacred site' is called "Tirtha-Yatra".
India has a strong spiritual history from the Vedic era.
The Indian scriptures, which span a wide range of human emotions and aspirations, have also made a significant contribution to Indian spiritualism.
Four Dhams, 12 Jyotirlingas, 51 Shaktipeeths, Saptapuri across the country are the destinations where devotees express their devotion and reverence, while Tirthas are the sources of purification and spiritual renewal.
Its believed that Char dhams ie visiting the four abodes helps a person attain moksha or salvation.
⚜️Each abode represents the four Vedas /yugas;
🪷While Badrinath represents Atharva Veda/ Satyuga.
🪷Rameshwaram represents Yajur Veda/ Tretayuga.
🪷Dwarka represents Sama Veda/Dwaparyuga
🪷Jagannath Puri represents Rig Veda/Kaliyuga
In the tapestry of Sanatan, there are thousands of pilgrimages or religious places where Dhams& Teerthas are threads that weave together the spiritual, philosophical&cultural fabric of India.
It is an opportunity not just to recharge your batteries, but to reconnect with what matters most to you, to feed your soul, and your mind, and delve into the pleasures that you miss most in daily life, as well as spend time with the place.
🪷Lalita Sahasranama mentions that Shakti is in 3 forms;
⚜️(1) Jnana Shakti: energy of knowledge
⚜️(2) Ichchaa Shakti: energy of will
⚜️(3) Kriya Shakti: energy of action. The key concept in Hindu philosophy and refers to the four proper goals or aims of a human life.
⚜️The four puruṣarthas are;
🪷Dharma (righteousness, moral values)
🪷Artha (prosperity, economic values)
🪷Kama (pleasure, love, psychological values)
🪷Moksha (liberation, spiritual values, self-actualization)
The journey itself is as important as the destination and the hardships of travel serves as an act of devotion in themselves. Ichcha shakti is desire, gyana shakti is the power of knowledge and kriya shakti is the power to act.
Visiting a sacred place is believed by the pilgrim to purify the self and bring one closer to the divine. Hindus undertake a pilgrimage as an act of devotion, to carry out a vow, to appease a deity, or to seek prosperity.
Going on holiday can give you a fresh wave of motivation and the strength to keep your life moving forward when you return.
One has to take association of devotees, sadhu-sanga, hari-katha,vigraha-aradhana,dhama-seva, prasada-sevana, dana-kriya and bhajana etc.
