Subramanyam was a Bhattar in Tirukkadaiyur temple. He was a Sakta Upasaka. Having reached the advanced stage of sataka, he started seeing the goddess in every woman. Whenever he sees a woman, he used to pray, go around & prostrate before them.
There is always a group of jealous folks everywhere & Tirukkadaiyur was no exception. They went and complained to King Serfoji I, who was ruling Thanjavur at that time, about Subramanyam that he is creating trouble.
Serfoji had heard about the Bhattar & not convinced about these complaints. But he wanted to make a personal enquiry about the state of affairs & went to Tirukkadaiyur. The day was Thai Amavasya (like today).

When the King reached the temple, Bhattar was in deep medidation before the shrine of Abhirami. He was seeing a flash of light which happens to the Sataka under deep trance. Serfoji want to question him to check his sanity. He asked Bhattar about the day. Seeing the full light, Subramanyam replied him that it is 'Pournima' - full moon day. Surprised by the answer, the king repeated the question but the answer was same.
Enraged, Serfoji told that Bhattar that he will execute him if he doesn't see full moon on the night and left the place. After 'coming back' to the world, Bhattar realised his mistake & prayed to the goddess.

That night, Bhattar was made to stand on a swing. Fire was lit underneath the swing. Bhattar started singing the praise of Abhirami. The verses were in the Anthathi form in which the last word of one verse will be the first word of the subsequent verse.
When he was singing the 79th verse which is
Goddess Abhirami manifested & through her Thadanga (diamond earring) which became shined like a bright light in the horizon. Seeing this & realising the greatness of the Bhattar, Serfoji honoured Subramanyam & gave him the title of Abhirami Bhattar. Bhattar composed the remaining verses to make the text of 'Abhirami Anthathi' with 100 verses.
Miracles does happen !
