- The curious case of Matty Cash and Defenders
With Cash being benched yesterday, as we indicated last week, it might be time to move on from him
If you already have an Arsenal & a Newcastle defender in your FPL team, then bringing in a Chelsea defender & benching them this GW
could be ideal.
They rank amongst the best teams in the league (6th) in terms of xGC & play teams in Bottom half for xG until GW21. Cheaper option like Colwill is a good shout with their added attacking threat via set pieces. Their upcoming fixtures are too good to be ignored
On the other hand, if you do not yet have an Arsenal or Newcastle defender, it’s time to get them in. Both teams are in the Top 3 for xGC this season and should be fixture-proof and locks for the long term.
But our biggest shout is for PEDRO PORRO. As clean sheets are anyway a myth, an attacking defender on set pieces is a DREAM. Yes, we would love to be a part of this Dream. As confirmed yesterday, we have already made the transfer from Cash to Porro
1. Porro
2. Saliba
3. Colwill
- Dubravka or Kelleher
Keeper position this season has been a big dilemma for all the managers. Trying to fit in the best possible GK that lets you have freedom and budget for the other 10 players while keeping clean sheets is a big problem.
With Pope out for almost 5 months, getting a goalkeeper in Dubravka at just 3.9M from a team that's 3rd for xGC and have 6 Clean sheets (best in the league) so far is a no brainer. Newcastle have a good run of fixtures too. Some Newcastle fans are also confident that..
He will keep his place & Newcastle might just loan a backup option. Even if they don’t they have Karius.
We are not too confident on Kelleher (was evident last GW)
Allison has been worldclass & plays a vital role in Liverpool getting those clean sheets. Kelleher is just not him
With Areola keeping just 1 clean sheet this season, selling Turner for Dubravka and keeping Areola as backup can be a great move for whoever interested. Even if it requires a hit. Areola plays an attacking Spurs and is likely to concede again.
- 5th Midfielder vs 3rd Forward
A very important discussion going forward would be whether 3-5-2 is ideal or 3-4-3. With so many options up our sleeve amongst both midfielders and strikers, it’s debatable.
While players like Isak and Solanke are consistently performing, we…
Feel the upside will always be there with a midfielder getting 5 points/ goal and clean sheet points too. And it’s not that they aren’t delivering. Players like Gordon and Mbeumo have been consistent this season.
Palmer was benched this GW but that was because of a knock he got during training. While he has been Chelsea’s best midfielder, its highly possible that he could get benched again soon during this congestion because of which we favor Gordon more
Gordon > Mbeumo > Palmer > Diaby
- Watkins vs Darwin vs Alvarez
A very big discussion is going on currently in the community for the second and the third striker spot. We will try and make it simpler for you.
Let’s start with stats-
Watkins: 8G & 9A, xG (7.9), xG/90 (0.58), BCs missed (13), Shot conversion %: 14%
Alvarez: 4G & 7A, xG (3.5), xG/90 (0.27), BCs missed (1), Shot conversion %: 8.1%
Darwin: 4G & 6A, xG (5.8), xG/90 (0.67), BCs missed (13), Shot conversion %: 6.8%
Watkins has clearly been the best performer among the three. As we mentioned in our last week's thread, Villa are an improved side under Emery and the way they play has helped Watkins. Fixtures are tough but if you have him then hold him (City will be without Rodri)
Liverpool's fixture are juicy & so is Darwin's potential. The only problem is his finishing. He has missed 13 Big Chances already. The fixtures are easy & the chances will come. He will haul vert soon but we wouldn't recommend you to move out Watkins for Darwin.
Alvarez's form has dipped with 1 goal and 2 assists in last 7 games but there are managers who do not own Haaland and for them he is surely an option to consider. We prefer Watkins and Darwin above him for now. He had a brilliant game last night.
Watkins > Darwin > Alvarez
- Is Trippier essential?
Well, he is certainly one player you would like to have if you don't own him.
A defender who's Top 2 for Big Chances Created and Top for xA is always an asset to have. Newcastle have so far recorded 6 clean sheets and are in Top 3 for xGC too.
All these stats are tempting but the main question here is if you can afford him? Managers currently with Son/Salah + Haaland and Watkins (the general template) will find it difficult to get him in the team.
If you have the funds to get him, then go for him. But make sure you plan for long term and don't compromise on the transfers that you have thought for the coming GWs. Also, with Dubravka now becoming an option, a double up with Lascelles looks spicy.
- Avoiding Hits is the key to success
In this fixture congestion and holidays around, it is very easy for us to get swayed & take hits instantly if our move does not pay off. DON’T. Like shared on Saturday, avoiding hits gave us a 3% green arrow even before the games kicked off
While hits can be justified for players who would ideally like to captain like Haaland, Salah, Saka and Son, taking hits to just remove a defensive asset (Read cash) isn’t ideal as clean sheets are a myth already this season. It’s highly possible that your replacement blanks too.
- Captaincy
Surprise Surprise! Another GW where The FPL king is yet again our top pick for captaincy. He continues to strengthen his tally, which is up to 8 goals and 6 assists now, and as mentioned previously this could’ve been even higher.
Liverpool are the best attack as they continue to rank 1st for xG & 2nd for Big Chances Created. Being the player who has created the most Big Chances & ranks 2nd for xG, Salah is the key. He’s facing a SHU side that rank Bottom for xGC & concede most chances through the wings.
Arsenal continued their winning run and are now up against Luton. Although Luton are better at home, their defensive vulnerabilities across the width of the pitch would be something that the Arsenal attack would thoroughly test and Luton’s defence are weakened too with...
both CBs now injured. Saka’s would like to continue his scoring run and his underlying numbers bolster the argument as well. He’s now moved up by one more position to rank 2nd for xA and will be key to Arsenal’s attacking exploits.
He is back! And he is hungry! Erling Haaland is back in contention for captaincy this GW. Coming in strong with the highest xG (14.2) & highest nPxG (11.0) & against a Villa side who’s defensive weakness can be found through the middle. Could haul big against Villa’s high line.
We hope you found this thread helpful and it will be crucial while deciding your transfers for #GW15
