Praising Ibn Rushd & Ibn Sina (as true muslim rationalists) while upholding Secularism | 🧵
Due to their obsession with 'rationalism', regardless of the context and the line of thought any conversation is taking place, the mere mention of 'reason' & 'philosophy' by any Islamic..
thinker gives somehow the impression to these people that, that specific thinker's thought advocates their own politco-philosophical ideas.
I have seen multiple times, @SyedMuzammilOFL & @Shehzad89 spew around the names of Ibn Rushd & Ibn Sina as champions of 'Rational Islam'
and advising others to to study their thought, that however without themselves truly knowing their complete religio-philosophical work. And trying to exploit their thought, by interpreting it in an atomistic manner.
So here's what Ibn Rushd and Ibn Sina had to say regarding state and the role of religion (Shariah) in governance - a subject that directly relates to the...
Secular doctrines of these individuals.
Ibn Rushd - clearly holds shariah's political function as the ideal constitution of an ideal state - shariah state.
The purpose of a state is to guide its citizens to the observance of the (revealed) law, hence achieving an ideal polity.
Ibn Rushd was fully aware of the distinction between secular states and states built on the foundations of revealed law, and preferred the latter as the ideal government, even the best secular state, that of Plato's was below an ideal shariah-state for the Andalusian.
Regardless of his philosophical inspirations & 'rationalism' - ibn Rushd clearly held the supremacy of a shariah based governance. Prophetic virtue being the highest standard of judgement for the character of and competency of a Ruler.
Ibn Sina (also Al-Farabi) - also understood the best governance, society and state, as the ones built through the framework of revealed law and governed through prophecy.
The ideal state is the one that's guided to reach the knowledge of God collectively and also ultimate happiness that lies in the realisation of man's true purpose which can only be achieved through the implementation and understanding of Prophecy and Shariah by the Imam.
And this here is the epitome of anti-secular understanding of state and government if you ask me.
Ibn Sina's political theory was in fact the nearest to the orthodox understanding of Khilafa.
Enemies of Sunnah from within the muslim community can waged war against, he held the view of offensive Jihad against the Kuffar - a view which secularists love to ascribe to the "irrational mullahs" but surprisingly its the position of the beacon of 'philosophical rationalism'.
yes these thinkers held multiple theological and legal positions that were in sharp contrast to those of the orthodoxy, but this in no way supports the view that they were any where near to the 'liberal-secular rationalism' of todays age.
The only 'muslim' thinkers these people appreciate are these (simply because they were considered heretics by the orthodoxy due to their over-reliance on reason), and even these philosophers don't agree with their secular paradigm. Tells a lot about the validity of their
foundational worldview in the history of Islamic Thought.
As shown above, in truth - all the major islamic 'philosophers' were primarily i.e. in their metaphysical foundations were anchored to framework that religiously contradicts the principle worldview of these individuals..
trying to exploit their thoughts.
And I will not let these people hijack and exploit my Islamic Tradition for their own purposes. I advise these people to stay in their lane and not step in a field/thought that's anything but welcoming of their modern worldviews.
