The European bubonic plague between 1346 to 1353,  also called Black Death was an unparalleled tragedy
But can you believe even in this dark event where one third of Europe was wiped out there were some silver linings?
Read on to find out.
The plague killed 1/3rd of Europe & also brought out the worst in humans.
People blamed Jews, beggars, lepers for spreading & did horrible atrocities in futile attempts to appease God. But even in this there were positives.
Like the amrut after poison halhala in sagar manthan
Labor became a golden commodity with fewer people in existence
Survivors got higher wages & better working conditions all of a sudden which were unthinkable just a few years before
There was much more land available for much fewer people.
So social hierarchies that were extremely rigid got disrupted.
A peasant who had no chance of upward mobility pre plague could now get land and a fresh start at life
The totalitarian power of the Church reduced as their bluff was called out.
If their God was so powerful why was he unable to prevent contain or at least warn about it - people started asking.
Credibility of the Church was badly hit
With the chokehold of the Church reduced, European creativity slowly started flourishing again in art, architecture/science/philosophy
This lead to the renaissance & age of exploration which ultimately lead to Industrial Revolution & put Europe back on top of the pecking order
The Black Death was a reset button. A game changer.
Shook up the social structure, made people question long-held beliefs, and had a lasting impact on art and culture.
Thus this calamity too had some good outcomes.
Unbelievable right?
