The story of Bojan:
Barca learning from mistakes made in the past 💙❤️
(A Thread)
Bojan was considered the next Messi when he came through La Masia. In 2007, he became the youngest player to represent Barca in La Liga.
At the age of 32, he retired from football.
If you watched Bojan play, you could clearly tell that he had some special abilities. He scored over 900 goals for Barca’s youth teams, and registered 41 goals and 19 assists for Barca’s first team.
Still, he never reached his full potential.
Destined for greatness, Bojan opened up about his struggles, following intense pressure from the outside world:
“When I came up, it was ‘new Messi’. There are a lot of things people don’t know. I didn’t go to the 2008 Euros because of anxiety issues.”
Bojan revealed that he struggled with anxiety, which made him feel sick throughout the entire day. There was a never ending pressure affecting him.
Learning from your mistakes is essential. It’s obvious that Barca could have handled Bojan’s situation better, but Bojan’s experience is worth it’s weight in gold. Barca have decided to take advantage of that, and made him a key member of the sporting structure.
Bojan will help monitor young players. Those who play elsewhere on loan will not feel abandoned, but experience that Barca are looking out for them.
He will also act as a bridge between the first team and La Masia. He will help and talk to players who break into the first team.
His role can’t be underestimated. In the world of social media, young players are bound to feel even more pressure.
Each season a new La Masia talent comes up. Talents which can’t go to waste.
