The Day Arturo Vidal won the hearts of all Barca fans…
(A Thread)
This took place in 2019 at Santiago Bernabeu - El Clasico.
At the time, young Sergio Reguilon had made his way into the first team for Real Madrid. He had even managed to replace legend Marcelo in the starting lineup, and was eager to prove himself.
Real Madrid vs Barca is supposed to be heated. This game was no exception.
Reguilon found himself in an altercation with Luis Suarez. Suarez provoked the left back, who responded by saying:
“Don’t touch me. You are so ugly”. Some said he also referred to Suarez as ‘rabbit’.
Barca’s captain Lionel Messi got involved to defend his teammate, and Reguilon quickly turned his attention to the Argentine, throwing insults.
You could clearly tell there was a bad vibe, which Pique confirmed in an interview after the game.
On the sidelines, a certain Chilean watched these events unfold. It fueled him to a point where he couldn’t wait to be involved in the game.
After 70 minutes, Arturo Vidal replaced Arthur.
The midfield warrior made a huge impact right away. In the last 20 minutes of the game, he won 5 ground duels, and stopped Vinicius multiple times.
However, he is remembered for one particular action.
Sergio Reguilon - who had insulted Vidal’s teammates, took a heavy first touch. Vidal smelled the opportunity and went into the challenge with all he got. The result?
The Real Madrid player was sent flying back to the reserves 😉
The tackle itself was perfectly legal. Sergio Reguilon took a small beating, but he had no issues continuing the game.
However, the tackle also included a message signed by Arturo Vidal - to show more respect for his teammates.
