Royal pomp and refined luxury...
In the form of majestic palaces and cathedrals. Is there a more accurate words for the Baroque era? A style that has become the pinnacle of the architectural development of Western civilization and a centuries-old decoration of its countries. I would like to draw your attention to one of them - Germany.
1) Frauenkirche, Dresden.
Lutheran Church, built on the instructions of the Saxon Elector and King of Poland August the Strong in 1726-1743. The pearl of Saxony was razed to the ground in 1945, but in 2005 it was completely recreated.
2) The New Palace in Potsdam is a palace erected in the 60s of the 18th century at the request of the great Prussian Emperor Frederick the Great, who is famous for his epochap contribution to the development of Prussian architecture. The palace is located in the Sanssouci estate. Friedrich took the Howard Palace in England, which inspired him, as a basis.
3) The Catholic Collegiate Church of St. Cajetan in Munich, was the court and at the same time the order church of the Order of the Theatines, as well as a princely tomb for the Bavarian Wittelsbach dynasty.
4) The Zwinger is a palace ensemble in the Old City of Dresden, a striking monument of the German Baroque. Another treasure of Saxony has not only architectural, but also cultural value - the palace houses the titled Dresden Art Gallery of old masters, presenting numerous masterpieces of classical European painting.
The Zwinger consists of elegant elegant pavilions with a gallery building built in the Neo-Renaissance style (started in 1847 by Semper, finished by Kruger by 1855).
5) The Abbey of Fulda is one of the most significant abbeys of medieval Germany, founded on the banks of the Fulda River in 744 by Sturmius, a beloved disciple of the "Apostle of Germany" Boniface, whose ashes rest in the abbey. The cathedral church underwent renovation in the XVII century, and in the XVIII century it was rebuilt in the Baroque style according to the project of Johann Dinzenhofer.
6) The Ludwigsburg Residence was built for Archduke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg in 1704-1733. After that, the city of Ludwigsburg itself was founded. The palace is one of the largest palace and park ensembles of the Baroque era in Germany.
7) Kloster Ettal - The monastery was founded in 1330, on the day of St. Vitali by Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria. According to legend, at the place where the monastery stands, his horse knelt three times. Initially, a Gothic church was built, consisting of a main 12-sided building and a bell tower towering nearby. But in 1744 the building burned down due to a fire, as a result of which in 1790 the Abbey was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style under the leadership of a Swiss Enrico Zuccali.
8) In conclusion, my favorite place in Berlin - the Charlottenburg Palace, perhaps the most exquisite Baroque monument in Prussia and Germany.
The palace was built under Frederick I and his wife, Sophia Charlotte, in 1699. However, until the 19th century, the palace was constantly changing. For example, Frederick II completed greenhouses here and erected a new wing. And by decree of Frederick William III, a new palace theater and the emperor's own mausoleum were erected.
