Did you know a simple checklist for on-page SEO could make all the difference in improving your website's rank?
Interested in learning how?
Rather than saying write good content.
Here's my checklist: [ A 🧵 of 8 tweets]
#SEO #affiliate
👉1. Target keyword in title/URL/h1
And...
The target keyword in the first 200 words.
By doing so, you reduce the bounce rate and help Google focus on the page's content.
You'll mention the target keyword a few more times in the article, but I tend to keep it to a minimum. 👍
👉2. The intro.
You skim or judge an article at the beginning.
👉No fluff.
👉A 400-square-pixel branded image.
👉Bullet points.
Take key questions, and summarise it with bullet points.
Never use big stock images. They add no value.
Everyone hates them.
👉3. All headers/h2s listed as questions.
Questions engage the reader
People search for answers to questions (most of the time).
You can help both the reader and the search engines
The more time spent on the page, the better.
All of the above helps, but here's the best hack:
👉4. Add 1 relevant Youtube video.
Not as effective as before
Google doesn't show Youtube thumbnails in the SERPs. Increasing CTR
However, it increases dwell time and adds another piece of media a competitor might overlook
Information gain - Improved understanding of a query
👉5. TOC & Featured snippet optimisation.
Include a table of contents. They help the reader. Plus, they can appear in the search results
For the snippet, check what works. How is it formatted? Do the same, and improve until you win. Bulleted lists are a must for buyers guides
👉6. Internal & Outbound links.
All outbound links are authority sources .edu/.gov
At least 3-4 relevant internal links
Use the site:url (keyword) in Google to find relevant linking opportunities.
Tools like link whisper help (alot)
👉7. Ensure a topical silo structure.
Organise your website. The UX is better and categorisation is easier for Google.
Example:
Dog food pages should be together. Like - site/food/posts-about-food
You can silo in many ways.
I prefer to do it at a URL level.
👉8. Related posts widget.
Most WP themes do this standard. Make sure to add it if it doesn't.
They are effective for keeping users on your site.
You can even have an related infinite scroll widget, where it loads the next article.
Big news sites implement this. (not tried)
