3 years ago, I was a burned out dentist stuck in the rat race.
I thought I'd be trapped in my career forever...
But then I found the creator economy.
Here's how I went from drilling teeth to building a 6 figure creator business by writing online:
I hated dentistry.
But I'd spent 10 years and 6 figures on the career and couldn't see a way out.
So my plan was to work hard, save harder, and hopefully retire by 45.
I took on two jobs and worked 6 days a week...
It was a terrible idea.
Society's normalised a state of discontent.
We waste away in traffic driving to a job we don't enjoy. We're meant to live life in exhausted windows of evenings and weekends. And if you're not happy about it?
You're told to be realistic.
But fuck that.
Life is made for more.
When I was at peak burnout my friend sent me @naval's podcast.
He teaches you how to build wealth AND be happy. Just by being you online.
· Build an audience
· Solve their problems
· Launch your business
Sounds simple right?
Simple maybe.
But certainly not easy.
I had no clue what to do online.
I thought copywriting was about legally protecting goods and Twitter was for sports commentary.
So after 12 months of painful posting, I STILL didn't have 1,000 followers.
It was the world's slowest escape plan.
But then I changed the game.
Most people think building an audience is the aim online.
But it's not.
It's building a reputation.
So I stopped paying attention to 'audience builders' and instead listened to enterpreneurs at the top of their game.
Guess what they all swore by?
Writing.
Because ultimately, the creator business is the relationship business.
And writing is how you build trust at scale.
Doubling down on the skill changed my life.
But there's a right and wrong way to write online.
Let me tell you the right way...
Focus on one person.
The easiest way is to write to yourself.
Serve your shadow and your audience becomes an extension of yourself.
You don't need to be an expert to have something worth saying.
Just empathy in a problem worth solving.
Don't chase. Attract.
The internet's like a sea of minds. Writing is the magnet that pulls them in.
But people aren't looking for gurus.
They're looking for guides.
They want a human touch (ESPECIALLY with the rise of AI).
Instead...
People don't just want to be educated.
They want to be entertained.
They want to be inspired.
Success as a creator is less about lecturing your audience and more about showing them.
Sharing stories. Writing with personality. Being authentic.
Because this way...
Your audience knows, like, and trust you.
They're not just followers.
They're fans.
They'll tell you about their problems and you can build solutions.
Instead of 'hustling in the DM's', you just share ideas you believe in and invite them to invest.
But one note...
Writing is like the gym.
At first it sucks. You have no clue what you're doing and you think everyone's judging.
But with consistency comes confidence.
So accept the start is supposed to suck. Zoom out. And put in the reps.
Digital freedom is worth every effort.
Thanks for reading!
If you enjoyed this, quick request.
I'd love if you'd share this thread so your audience can see it too. And drop a quick comment below if you have any questions.
All feedback is appreciated 🥂
P.S.
I’ve followed the same writing system for a year now. If you want to learn how to combine copywriting, storytelling, and content to stand out online as a creator…
I’ve explained how you can do it here:
