Jordi Alba opened the score after an astonishing counter attack by Barca. Adama Traore couldn’t be stopped running forward with the ball, and released the ball at the perfect time. Right foot finish by Jordi Alba.
5 minutes later Frenkie decided to curl it like prime Messi from outside the box. Ferran made a brilliant run and back-heeled it to the Dutchman. While Ferran should have been played through on goal, Frenkie decided to take matters into his own hand. 2-0.
Barca kept on going, but conceded a penalty which Napoli converted. “Oh no, Barca conceded a goal in Europe away from home.” Shadows from the past came lurking. Everyone expected Barca to bottle the game. Xavi’s men had different ideas.
Right before halftime, Ferran and Alba showed a great connection yet again. Alba found Pique (or Ronaldinho wearing a mask), who took one touch with his right foot, before smashing it into the corner with his left foot. Why haven’t we talked more about that goal?
15 minutes into the second half Barca were patiently building an attack. Adama Traore received the ball, and showed why Xavi insisted on his arrival. Advanced towards the goal, attracted opponents and released a pass. Frenkie made a dummy & Aubameyang sent it into the top corner.
The perfect game in the eyes of Barca fans. Adama with two assists, Alba with a goal and assist, Ferran contributing well, Aubameyang scoring, Frenkie balling. A great team performance. Araújo & Pique kept Osimhen quiet.
It was one of those refreshing games where you could feel Xavi’s impact on the team. Different from previous seasons. Smiles all over the pitch. A united group.
