أبو سمبل هو موقع أشهر معابد رمسيس الثاني. الجانب الأكثر إثارة في هذا المعبد هو نحته في الصخر الصلب فوق ضفاف نهر النيل بين الشلال الأول والثاني. بقدر ما هو معبد أبو سمبل مثير للإعجاب فإنه ربما ما كان سيكون موجود لو لا نقله بسبب بناء السد العالي في أسوان.
