@ammassinz @regularNAME_ @LlastResort @xruiztru It is not "très simple", sorry. There are issues that need to be addressed to make a convincing etymology in a methodical and linguistically sound way. This proposed etymology does not stand up to those scholarly standards.
@ammassinz @regularNAME_ @LlastResort @xruiztru If there are better arguments, and a good explanation I would love to read about it. Please give me a references to a scholarly article that discusses the etymology.
But the basic claim, is unconvincing.
But please do not misunderstand:
@ammassinz @regularNAME_ @LlastResort @xruiztru marrakech clearly is NOT an Arabic word. That is clear. It is likely a Berber word. I am not disagreeing with you on that.
But the question is: what is the origin of this word and its original meaning? That is not so clear with the word.
@ammassinz @regularNAME_ @LlastResort @xruiztru Sometimes saying "I don't know" is better than confidently saying "I definitely know" for very bad reasons.
I don't know what the etymology of Marrakech is. It's an old name, and it is not obvious what it's etymology is. I am open to arguments, but not to vague impressions.
