In a declassified CIA document outlining the details of Operation Belladonna, we can see the US had already made contact with #NazisInUkraine who were keen to ally with the US against the #USSR, primarily through development of the Ukrainian Supreme Liberation Council (UHVR).
The document goes on to outline the scale of the UHVR apparatus, noting how many countries its members are stationed in and the extent of suggested reports.
Note the last paragraph: this CIA project involved #Canada as well — a hotbed of Banderite immigrants after WW II.

As the CIA expanded its operations in #Ukraine, additional projects came to light:
Project AERODYNAMIC (formerly CARTEL, ANDROGEN, AECARTHAGE), which operated 1949-1970 before being reclassified under Project named QRDYNAMIC in 1970 and finally QRDYNAMIC/QRPLUMB until 1991.

There are thousands of declassified CIA documents that contain sensitive information regarding these project names and the activities involved.

These operations were coordinated via Washington, Vienna, and Munich, using the remnants of #Nazi German intelligence (with a mighty assist from Britain’s MI6).
The document has a detailed analysis of the crazy-quilt patchwork of Ukrainian resistance organizations, names and positions of leadership, locations, and contacts (mostly in former #Nazi Germany):
The CIA was rather surprised to discover the Ukrainian resistance movement had quite a global network!
Notice that this document from the early 1950’s, the CIA had no Ukrainian nationalist operatives in the United States— but that would soon change.
The Agency started bringing them into the US around 1953, starting with Allen Dulles’ personally recruiting Mykola Lebed.

From the very start of the US/#Ukraine love affair in 1945, the Ukrainian nationalists were begging for funding, arms, and support in their quest to overthrow the government of the #SovietUnion.

In this 1966 declassified document, we can see the noted objective of Project AERODYNAMIC at that time.

The CIA brought #Nazi war criminal Mykola Lebed to the US and set him up running the “Prolog Publishing Company” in NYC, an Agency front.

Even though these CIA documents were declassified nearly 20 years ago, certain parts are still redacted in regards to funding, making it difficult for historians to follow the money… 🧐
The CIA had a variety of cryptonyms for their Ukrainian operatives. For example:
Mykola Lebed was CASSOWARY-2.

Although this thread 🧵 only covers a miniscule portion of declassified documents from the CIA, it is important to note that these projects define half a century of support for Ukrainian nationalism, and there are still thousands more to analyze.
