Western media hypocrisy & orientalism is like what Nick mentioned: 2 groups, good/bad-faith actors. one group is conscious of its hypocrisy & orientalism, while it runs deep in the other group subconscious that they don’t notice it. I believe Nichols fall into the second category
In his 15 min read piece, Nick failed to mention the misleading Guardian headline of the 6500 workers death which was the backbone of the recent unanimous media attack on Qatar. Even though Nick himself participated in it! Every attack on Qatar after Jan21 cited that number!
So, Nick himself is one of the sources of the most audacious false information used against Qatar, & he doesn’t even feel the need to clarify or explain anything, & of course, he doesn’t see the orientalism & hypocrisy side of the Western vicious campaign that used his numbers!
Nick wrote against Qatar only 4 days after it “& Russia” were awarded the WC in 2010. Since then he wrote 9 articles all against Qatar, 0 articles about Russia “couldn’t find anything online”. In an article about sport corruption he mentioned Russia once, & Qatar 15 times!
Nick didn’t mention US26 WC which has proven slave labour!but managed to set the stage to attack Saudi 2030 WC which not even bided yet. His fellow Guardian already published a total BS article “in the same day” arguing in the same direction! & nick still doesn’t see hypocrisy 🤷🏻♂️
In his lengthly piece, Nick defended the role of sportswriters & argued that there was no agendas in their coverage. Well, now it’s clear what’s in their coverage: straight racism & zero respect to other cultures.
