One rather funny incident during Later mughal period:-
In 1773, Mirza Najaf Khan merely started reconquest of Mughal land captured by Jat Rajas of Bharatpur. Due to weakening of mughal power, boundary of Bharatpur kingdom reached till Maidan garhi in modern south delhi.
But Mirza Najaf expelled the garrison and took war into Bharatpur territory. Marching south, one by one Najaf Khan took Bhawani Khera, Palwal and Banchari and routed the enemy in many skirmishes. Najaf's army also looted and pillaged all the jat villages that lay in the way.
So great was the terror of Najaf Khan on jats that on mid day of 11th October when the main Jat army under its de facto ruler Nawal Singh was camped near Banchari and were having meal, a dust cloud on the west was mistaken for the mughal army under Najaf Khan.
And suddenly panick struck in the whole camp. Every soldier of the jat army fled in fear in any direction he deemed fit. Leaving their whole camp standing, the whole army vanished in all directions, Nawal singh stood there flabbergasted, he too mounted an elephant and fled
towards Kotvan. In this way whole jat army was defeated by a dust cloud and mere suspicion of mughal army while Najaf Khan was away in his own camp with his army resting.
Nonetheless, soon Najaf Khan put the town of barsana under siege where Nawal Singh took refuge, the queen (mother of infant king and sister in law of Nawal Singh) opened negotiations with Najaf Khan but was rejected by the latter. Barsana was soon taken and Nawal Singh
asked help from everyone Nawab of Awadh, Rajputs, Marathas, Sikhs. But Najaf Khan was adamant he kept on going, even re-taking fort of Agra from Jats. After a short cessation, the mughals marched on Deeg, Nawal Singh soon died, his place was taken by his brother Ranjeet Singh
who earlier invited Najaf Khan against his brother Nawal Singh. Ranjeet's terms were not accepted by Najaf Khan, who captured Deeg after an obstinate fight. Ranjit Singh fled to Kumher, Najaf Khan came to Kumher and put the fort under siege. Now there was hardly any territory
left for Ranjeet Singh to flee except Bharatpur which he did. When everything seems to be lost, in that condition, widow of Surajmal named Hansia played a significant role in saving what remained of the jat kingdom. She personally went to Najaf Khan
in his camp. With tearful eyes she narrated the pitiful tale of her misery and misery of her husband's house. Najaf Khan was moved with sincerity of Hansia and gave Jagir worth of 8 lakhs a year and Bharatpur fort to Ranjeet Singh and fort of Kumher and some villages for Hansia.
The kingdom now remained with Raja of Bharatpur was only former shadow of the vast kingdom and resources of Surajmal and Jawahar Singh, yet it was more than sufficient for someone who almost lost everything if not for a woman.
