NJ passed Ch. 32 that requires K-12 curricula must be in place that addresses diversity, equity & inclusion (including gender identity topics) that parents are unable to opt their children out of. So what would happen if a kindergartner started questioning their gender identity?🧵
They would be affirmed & could even have their legal records at the school changed without parental knowledge & consent. School officials were advised to be careful, lest that move might “out” the student to their parents. What else could happen without parent notification? 👇🧵
Students with different genitalia being allowed to use bathrooms & changing rooms, or perhaps sleeping together in accommodations on overnight school trips because "gender is a social construct" & "we're not living in a binary structure." Would could go wrong there? 🧵
Parents aren’t the only ones getting their rights trampled.Students’ & teachers’ 1st amendment rights are cast aside for a flimsy definition of “hate speech” that could just mean you don’t affirm a child by using their pronouns or not believing that there are more than 2 genders.
God forbid you're uncomfortable & want accommodations because it might "signal a school climate issue" or are a 2nd grader upset that children are talking about their genitalia at school instead of learning about math & reading.
What about THOSE children’s feelings of safety?🧵
Since there are no bright lines for hate speech, even a 2nd grader can be accused of bullying a student based on their gender identity.
Teachers that don’t affirm a student or use their pronouns can also have disciplinary measures taken against them for not doing so. 🧵
In the end, NJ teachers & staff don’t have to be afraid to teach your children about gender identity or affirm your child without your knowledge or consent because they have the support of the district & will be legally protected if your child is harmed by their actions.🧵
