85y old guy came with severe fluid retention in the body and breathing difficulty after a dose of Combiflam for pain related to some boil in the back. After admission and giving diuretics he had 9.5 litre of urine output in 12 hours! #medtwitter
Don't take PAIN KILLERS like Diclofenac or Nimesulide or ibuprofen, unless prescribed by a doctor, especially if you have heart disease or kidney disease. Even then, take for the shortest duration and try to look for cause of pain and it's treatment.
NSAIDS can lead to high BP, heart attack, kidney failure, heart failure and serious gastro intestinal bleeding. Other adverse events are mentioned here.
People at risk of side effects of pain killers
1. Elderly
2. Diabetes mellitus
3. Hypertension
4. Previous heart attack or stroke
5. History of GI bleeding
6. Kidney disease
7. History of allergic reactions to Pain killers in past
8. Pregnancy and lactation
9. Asthma
