Thread on mixed origins of the highest purest V1 Bπ∆hman caste.
We know from Vishnu Puran, Book IV, Chapter 19, that from the great Kshatriya king Puru, sprang four different Bπ∆hman families - Gargya, Sainya, Kanvayana and Maudgalya.
From the great Kshatriya sage Vishwamitra, sprang the Kaushik Bπ∆hmans and from Kshatriya Ajamidha, sprang Kanvayana Bπ∆hmans. Similarly Kshatriya Puramidha also created a Bπ∆hman kul.
Further we have two sons of Vaishya Nabhagrahishtha who became Bπ∆hmans and created Bπ∆hman Kul.
Great Bπ∆hman sage Vashishtha was also said to have been born from a Ganika. If scholars are to be believed, it indicates low origin.
Vyasa and Parashara similarly were two Bπ∆hmans who “originally not twice-born” as per the Mahabharat. Both of them were fisherman and ©handal respectively.
These are not isolated cases but a Bπ∆hman tradition where children born out of Shμdra women were married to Bπ∆hmans. Scholars rightly point out that Shμdra blood flows through Bπ∆hman veins.
It can be seen happening in the Medieval times too.
Further we find in Wilkins' Indian Castes Vol II that there are many Abhira Bπ∆hmans in Maharashtra and Khandesh, who scholars believe, originated from Abhiras. Similarly we find Gurjar Gaud Bπ∆hmans who, as per the scholars most revered by trad ¶ongq Jis, indicate
Gujjaπs also became Bπ∆hmans and created V1 kul. Karhade Bπ∆hmans of Maharashtra were originally Gujjaπs as pointed out by scholars.
And lastly we have the infamous case of Misπa Bπ∆hmans originating from Kshatriya Mayur. Later the Bπ∆hmans, out of shame, created stories calling Mayur a Bπ∆hman, but as we see, the tradition of Kshatriya father Bπ∆hman mother is well established.
Kshatriyas also elevated Ahiπs, Kuπmis, Bhats and Lodhas to Bπ∆hman status as we saw earlier. It is no surprise why a well known Bπ∆hman historian, and the favorite of trad ¶ongas, DR Bhandarkar said - “all castes & classes have contributed to the formation of Bπ∆hman caste.”
Case of Chxtpavans of Maharashtra.
