Every field has their own terminologies that are unique to them. The list is endless, but here are some #Bioinformatics terms you need to know:
🧵
1/7
Genome annotation files: These are text files in which the information regarding different features of the #genome(genes and other regions of interest such as promoters, etc) can be stored and read mainly bioinformatically
FASTA files: contains a record of nucleic acid...
2/7
sequences (such as DNA sequences) or protein sequences saved in the text-based FASTA format
Kilobase (kb): length of DNA which is equal to 1,000 nucleotides
GenBank database: The GenBank sequence database is an open access, annotated collection of all publicly available...
3/7
nucleotide #sequences and their protein translations
Exon: are coding sections of an RNA transcript, or the #DNA encoding it, that are translated into protein
Genetic Map: A genetic map (also called a linkage map) shows the relative location of genetic...
4/7
markers (reflecting sites of genomic variants) on a chromosome.
