Lisandro Martinez had an aerial duel success rate of 71% last season. More than Koulibaly (55%), Ruben Dias (59%) & De Ligt (63%).
Aerial monster 🇦🇷 [A THREAD]
Almost every complain regarding Lisandro Martinez joining Manchester United is about his height (5’9). Even though It is true that height has an influence on aerial dominance it’s not a necessary condition at all.
This graph of mine made last year shows the impact of height with its exceptions (Silva and Sule)
Now about the accuracy of the aerial success %, sure it is not 100% perfect and the context of each header needs to be addressed as he may not be capable of keeping the exact same rate in PL. However, his rate is still way higher than most defenders and can’t be ignored.
Even though this video only shows his duels won, you can see a pattern of how he wins them by unbalancing his opponent and timing his jumps perfectly with high vertical leaps.
It’s ok to criticize this transfer, the problem is that the main arguments are unfounded as Lisandro comes from a less popular league hence only few people watched him often.
Judge players by their attributes, not by the social media narratives.
Data from the first tweet comes from WhoScored, league data only.
