You're always thinking about how to serve your customers.
But there's an even bigger audience you're ignoring.
Here's who they are:
1) Amplifiers: people who can amplify your brand/content.
2) Attendees: people who consume or pay attention to your content.
Beyond customers, they include:
• Peers
• Creators
• Journalists
• Investors
• ...and more.
They might never become customers.
But they influence your customers' buying decisions.
Your opportunity?
Influence them.
First, learn who they are and what motivates them.
Amplifier:
This is someone with an influential platform. Like a publication, blog, podcast, newsletter, or social account.
Their key motivation?
Growing their influence.
Amplifier's goals:
• Earn new followers, readers, or listeners.
• Turn those people into fans.
Your goal?
Figure out how you can support their goals.
It's that simple... and that hard.
To support amplifiers, think:
• How do you fit into their brand strategy?
• How can you help them create high-engagement content that brings new visitors?
• How can you boost their credibility, and thus, help them strengthen their reputations?
Next...
Attendee:
This is someone who pays attention to you. Like peers, reporters, analysts, VCs, and hobbyists.
Their key motivation?
Learning or being entertained.
Attendee's goals:
• Network.
• Stay informed.
• Be entertained.
Your goal?
Deliver value, novelty, or entertainment.
To support attendees, think:
• How can you help them keep up with news in your industry?
• How can you help them analyze trends?
• How can you give them info/content they can't get anywhere else?
So your true audience is made up of:
• Potential & current customers
• Amplifiers
• Attendees
They're not just "buyer personas."
They're "audience personas."
They each have their own motivations and goals.
And you need a different marketing strategy for each.
