BACTERMIA: تجرثم الدم وهو يعني وجود جراثيم حية في مجرى الدم، طبعًا في المستشفيات القساطر تعد من المسببات المتكررة لتجرثم الدم وكذلك عمليات الأسنان وحقن الأدوية عبر الوريد ببساطة (أي اجراء يتضمن دخول مواد أو أدوات لمجرى الدم )
