Some aspects of Peshwa Bajirao which arent talked about much. This thread is in response to one peshwa fanboi.
1. There is one claim that goes around that Peshwa Bajirao captured Delhi after defeating mighty Mughal army at Delhi. While as always truth is slightly different.
The actual event is Peshwa came to North with his full force. While near Agra Saadat khan the nawab of Awadh went to face him. Bajirao himself didn't came but sent part of his army under Holkar against Saadat Khan. Saadat Khan easily defeated Peshwa army and the defeated
army of peshwa fled. Remember that Mughal had two more armies under Wazir and Mir Bakshi sent south to engage Peshwa. Unlike people now used to claim if Peshwa met the combined army of Mughals head on, he most probably wouldn't go out of the battle field alive, and that peshwa
himself knew. He didn't face any of the three mughal armies which are still divided, and went towards Delhi. Now Delhi was a fortified city but all the armies of mughals were away hence they couldnt start the offensive. Meanwhile Peshwa army despite chauvinists claims these days
didn't had any siege weapons. And no matter what he wouldnt be able to get pass the city gates. A few thousand rag tag new recruits were sent which were defeated by peshwa thats all. And as soon as Peshwa heard that the main mughal army is coming back towards delhi, he fled
from delhi. Because he knew what would be the result. This was the all chest thumping capturing delhi claim's truth is. He also looted Kalkaji temple in delhi which was outside the mughal capital hence unprotected, this was done on Ramnavami when there was a big fair there.
Second claim is about defeating Nizam not once but twice, once at Palkhed and second time at Bhopal. Now I want to ask these Peshwa fanbois tell me how many people died in both these battles from both sides ? Who were in van and who were in charge of wings ? They wont tell this,
Cause both these battles are not actual battles. No actual battles were fought with Nizam, only treaties were signed with Nizam both the times, and as much Nizam liked to focus marauders under peshwa towards tottering mughal empire because every nobles of mughal were
fighting amongst themselves and mughal emperors were puppet in their hands. And Nizam wanted to safeguard his own kingdom from the looters. While the same fanbois wont tell you that on one occasion Bajirao himself fought under Nizam, and Nizam even sacked the Peshwa capital, Pune
Nizam's own son with limited resources signally defeated their beloved Peshwa a year before peshwa died but these things they wont tell you.
Next claim is so funny, i read somewhere that Nadir Shah fled from India when he heard that Bajirao is coming north, lol. While this claim is of course fake, Bajirao had no capacity to take on Nadir Shah. But this take backs to the truth of the event, when Nadir Shah
took the mughal throne he remained here for some days, later with looting mughal delhi he departed for Persia but before he went he again seated the mughal emperor Rangila on the mughal throne and sent letters to everyone under Mughal empire to follow his command.
He sent similar letter to Shahu and Bajirao as well. In the letter to Bajirao he warned him to follow the mughal emperor as he commands and serve him if not he will sent an army to the south to punish the rebels. Peshwa when heard abt Nadir shah's departure took sigh of relief
and soon as directed Peshwa wrote letter to Mughal emperor promising fealty and sent 100 mohurs as presents to Rangila, the emperor.
Before someone name Chhatrasal Bundela, let me just tell this that Peshwa didn't fully help him, he alongwith whole his army went to south when siege was still on going, chhatrasal had to later sign treaty with Bangash and gave promise of same amount of tribute he used to give
So no changes in his condition but Peshwa on the other hand took one third of his kingdom without actually helping him, there is a record of a story in which it says how diplomatically Bajirao forces Chhatrasal to give him territory. This territory peshwa demanded was not given
Chhatrasal even till his death and asked his sons to not give it to the marathas, why would he give it when Bajirao didnt even help, heck even Bangash would have been appeased by smaller amount. That kahawat of "Jo gati graha gajendra ki" is of course fake , it was never uttered
by Chhatrasal, its later poetic construct. Bajirao did similar tactics at Mewar and forced Maharana to give up territory without any basis and took couple of lacs from Maharana.
The truth of Bajirao is that he was at the right place at right time, Mughal empire was falling apart and mughal nobles were fighting amongst themselves, to profit that he secured vice subedari of some mughal suba under Mughal emperor's name of course. In bundelkhand
the territory of Bundelas was given to sons of Bajirao, called Nawab of Banda transferred from Hindu to muslim rulers, the scion of mastani who btw was not related to chhatrasal in any way, all later claims made for reasons.
These are almost all the achievements of Bajirao against Mughals which are talked abt if you have more claims do tell me i will happy to tell the truth abt it.
