Thread on Taliban Cabinet:
The Taliban’s choice of Cabinet was a result of their military victory. With the end of the military campaign, political leaders have come taken over and military commanders have been left behind.

There were only a handful security positions and too many military commanders.
Though the Taliban have somewhat changed their internal policies to please the masses but what’s striking is the current cabinet was a big F-You to the international community.

They could have at least tried to make it “inclusive” as they’ve promised. With it, they may have been able to gain some sort of legitimacy with the international community.

Once legitimacy or normalisation was achieved, they could have always removed & replaced the non-Taliban cabinet members with Taliban members.

With the current cabinet they’ve made it very difficult for the international community to recognise their government or even work with it. Seems like international factors were at the bottom of the list.

Note: Inclusive doesn’t necessarily mean bringing Karzai, Abdullah or Hekmatyar to the cabinet. They could have always asked them for their representatives to join the cabinet or they could have just brought in non-Taliban influentials into the cabinet.
