A globe commissioned by Sawai Jai Singh based on Skanda Purana. The first pic shows the top of the globe as Mount Meru. From Lake Mansarovar is flowing Alaknanda (tributary of Ganga). Ganga and yamuna are flowing parallel past the himalayan mountains. Sindhu is shown in west.
In second pic, Indian subcontinent is shown prominently. Cities such as Delhi, Agra, Amber, Kashi, Gaya, Ujjain, Pune, Multan and areas such as Punjab, Bundelkhand, Bengal, Utkal, Gondwana, Telangana, Karnataka. Western part of India is a little defaced. India's surrounding
like Khorasan and China are shown. Two big temples in the east and south part of the subcontinent is shown, east one is Jagannath Temple, southern one is illegible. South of India is the sea and 5 bands of continents with seas in between as clearly shown in the last pic.
Truly a marvellous creation by Astronomer King Sawai Jai Singh. The globe is now located at Bharat Kala Bhavan, Varanasi.
Numbering lines looks like some kind of Latitude, Longitude and unlike European maps Prime Meridian is passing through India and not UK. Here it should be mentioned that while Equator has fixed position but prime meridian is arbitary and we use 0 degree Longitude as line
passing through UK which was used by Europeans and we copied it. It could have been on any place and Sawai Jai Singh chose to keep it in India.
