1780, AhilyaBaiHolkar rebuilt the temple, not at original site but adjacent to it. Temple is built in ancient Panchayatnama style where the ‘Mool-Nayak’, that is Vishwantha, resides in ‘Mool Mandir’. It is surrounded by temples in the four corners.2
North-east of the mool mandir stood Annapurna, in the south-east the Avimukteshwar Mahadev, Parvati Temple in the Northwest, Laxmi-Narayan temple in the south-west. The low-roof colonnade with over forty pillars was built by Baiza Bai of Gwalior state.3
The Saraswati vigraha or sapt saraswati at the Saravasti Phatak is said to be established by Vyas or Yajnavalak himself, for the deliverance of the Kashi folks from curse that made them lose their knowledge, wealth. 4
Similarly, Apsareshwar Mahadev was established by the Apsaras. Draupaditya and PanchPandaveshwar were established by Draupadi and Pandavs respectively. There were rows of Shivlings, known as Kashi-Kachehari. One A Vigrah of Kapil Muni.5
Vishwanath temple had many trees that were either mentioned in shastras or stood there for ages. Whenever the name Akshayvat tree is taken, either Prayagraj or Gaya pops up in mind. But there is a Akshayvat tree in the Vishwanath temple too. 6
Acharya Nakuleshwar came here with his disciples and gave them the ‘Tatva gyan’. Since Nakuleshwar Mahadev resides within the Akshayvat, therefore the tree is ancient too. Traditionally, the Sanyasis and dandi-swamis take food under the Akshayavat.7
These temple, vigrahas were not randomly placed, their place distinctly mentioned in the Kashi-Khand of the Skanda Purana, with the Pauranic anecdotes and punyas related to it. 8

Rural folks from the hinterland of India desire to do ‘the Kashi-Yatra’. ‘Kashi-yatra’ is not any random strolling. Since ancient times pilgrims been doing ‘Shri Kashivishwanath antah-grahi pradakshina yatra, Navagraha yatra, Rudra hanuman yatra, chappan vinayak yatra etc. 10
Shastras mention 84 such yatras. Every yatra has a specific number of deities whose temples are visited by the devotees after they take ‘samkalp’ at the Vyas Bhavan, another historical monument. Like ancestors of Hindus once did. 11
In the Vishwanath lane, It is like walking through the living museum. Hindus from all over the Indian subcontinent have been immigrating to Kashi. In the sixteenth century, Khatri traders settled here, popularly known as Lahori Tola.12

The centuries old Saptrishi Arti, was performed on the road, as the then CEO of the project, PCS Vishal Singh was not happy as the information leaked that Kailash temple in the Viswanath complex was damaged. The Official did not let them enter the temple. 17

Govt took the possession of shastrokt temples four years ago, ruined it. IT cell circulated images of temple ruins and blamed the pujari. Govt then razed the temple, IT cell proclaimed temple never existed. BTW Jau Vinayak is kashi khandokt, his temple has been demolished.
