Persuading the Taliban to agree to negotiated settlement with the US was not that hard. Taliban agreed to settle their differences with the US through talks. They always perceived that the war was between the two sides (US & Taliban), Kabul government was just a “puppet”.

What took enormous effort was getting them to agree that Kabul government is not a “puppet” but a powerful political force in Afghanistan, which has be reconciled with.
They finally agreed to it.

The Taliban know that for their gov’t to flourish, they will need US recognition and financial support. They know they have to solve any issue (with the US) through a negotiated settlement.

With the US-Taliban agreement implemented, sufficient trust will be built between the two parties to further negotiate their emerging problems.
