Dogras did not betray anyone, rather It were the Sikh Sardars who betrayed Dogras and wanted to take away the Kingdom of Jammu from them.
After the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1839, the anarchy took place. There was clash between the son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh i.e.
Raja Kharak Singh & his own son Naunihal Singh for throne of Lahore Kingdom. This Sikh Raja Kharak Singh was an opium addict & an impotent ruler.
The fight for throne was not between Dogras & Sikhs but was between Kharak Singh and Naunihal Singh (later on Chand Kaur & Sher Singh
also jumped into this fight). Since Maharaja Ranjit Singh had declared Kharak Singh as his successor, so Dhian Singh supported Kharak Singh.
Maharaja Gulab Singh Jamwal stayed away from intrigues of the Lahore darbar. But how did the successors of Maharaja Ranjit Singh reacted ?
They reduced the powers of Dogras & took the away some of their Jagirs.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh's wife Rani Jindan Kaur (Not actually wife but concubine) who had illegal relationship with Khalsa Sikh Lal Singh hatched the plot to usurp the kingdom.
Power Hungry Sindhanwalia Jatts
had colloborated with the British and set their evil eye on Jagirs of Jammu Rajas. Later on even Sher Singh betrayed Dogras.
One by one each and every member of Dogra family was systematically murdered by Sikhs. Khalsa Sikh army attacked Jammu, set flames on the forts, plundered
people of Jammu. Rani Jindan imprisioned our Raja Gulab Singh. However, Raja Gulab Singh was so influential among local population of Punjab & Khalsa army, that he was set free & he could continue his rule. This was the treatment meted out to Raja Gulab Singh, yes the same person
who helped Khalsa Raj to conquer Kashmir, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jalandhar Doab (and also Jammu Ladakh Baltistan under Jammu Raj).
Later on, this Rani Jindan Kaur needed help from Maharaja Gulab Singh. Still Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji gave her good advice, but she was resolute!
Maharaja Gulab Singh chose to be neutral, He neither betrayed anyone nor supported anyone.
If Anyone is responsible for downfall of Khalsa Raj, It was the jealousy and ego of Sikh Sardars and foolish leadership of a concubine Rani Jindan!
And Do have Guts to share about how Sikh Maharaja of Patiala State betrayed Lahore Kingdom!!
Also Do share how prior to Ranjit Singh's rule, Sikhs of Punjab in Misl period looted and plundered Jammu City!
